April 8, 2016, 25 finalists have been selected from over 500 candidates to participate in the Eighth Three Shadows Photography Award (TSPA) exhibition.
Each judges talked deeply to every participant artists face to face. After intense deliberation by the International Jury Committee, 2016 Three Shadows Photography Award goes to Lam Pok Yin Jeff & Chong Ng “The Untimely apparatus of Two Amateur Photographers“; 2016 Shiseido Photographer Award winner goes to Wang Yan.
Lam Pok Yin exhibited his work consist of pictures recorded the process how to make the book into the camera called “my book is my camera” in Gas Station VI of 2013. During the exhibition, Lam Pok Yin even did a behavioral performance called “echoes: light unfixed”with his friends, and the artists invited some audience into a space inside the simulated camera to experience the feeling of invading a camera.
This time, “The Untimely apparatus of Two Amateur Photographers” discussed the relationship between photographic tools and photography in depth again. The artists tried to deconstruct and reflect the fundamental elements from the tools, methods and process of making images.
“The ancient-looking technique in my works: This is not out of nostalgia, however, its flexibility can elaborate the role in shooting better. We try to embezzle and subvert the image language in the manual: playing as the camera operaor, demonstrating the right way to use a camera, but instead, we are invading the equipment, and giving them new function.” The artists said.
