Vanguard gallery will present Chen Yongwei solo exhibition in June. Chen’s latest animation work Prolocutor of Memorial Overdraft will be showed, including draft and oil painting.
Chen graduated from New Media department of China Academy of Art. Most of his works are set about daily life, such as previous O and Dream beside Table. His new piece Prolocutor of Memorial Overdraft shows artist’s understanding about memory. In six-minute animation video, Chen puts elements such as double bed and dresser into dark space, uncompleted fragments easily confuse us: are these real or just an imagination? Meanwhile, Chen uses depressing background to accent an undescribable mood filled with resignation and sadness. Things change when time flies, but Chen expresses this feeling clearly. Although it’s a private feeling, we experienced it more or less or been experiencing it now.
Urban life is busy and fast pace; youth seems the power can be splurged on, ceaselessly. But Chen Yongwei doesn’t lose himself in such a fickle society. He captures interactive status between individual and outer environment with his calm and sensitivity, and record them in a simple and concise way.
The show starts on from June 2nd, on display for 15 days.
