Vanguard Gallery will present you Impression, a joint exhibition by Su Cheng and Zhao Rongjie from April 19th to May 4th. You will be shown selected print works from both artists.
Born in Nanjing in 1969, Su Cheng graduated from Fine Arts Department of Nanjing Normal University, majoring in Chinese Painting. He has devoted himself in education industry ever since. A few years ago, Su Cheng started to create art by photograph. He tried to mix photography with painting perfectly. “The creation comes with expectation, fatigue and excitement, but the result is always surprising.” Coming from the ancient city Nanjing, Su Cheng has a sense of modesty. However, it doesn’t stop us to use his horizon in exploring the city details, familiar or strange, ancient or modern.
Born in Shandong, Rongjie had studied oil painting and print in China Central Academy of Fine Arts since 1996. Currently, she is living in Dali, Yunnan Province, finishing her serial pieces Breathe. In this series, she tries to create a delightful world with a simple artistic language. Visual design is used to express the action of breath and a deeper understanding of life. “I am trying to express put these moments in graphic illusions, such as bird singing, flower blossoming, wind passing through the forest and busy crowds or wheels driving away. With the action breathing, these moments can be presented on paper with simple dots, lines and dimensions.”
Impression can be considered as a power, a mark left by repeated actions, the same as our memory and ideal. We can see both artists’ effort and choices from their intuition. What is life? Let’s all slow down and seek for the truth of life in their works.
Due to government repurposing, Vanguard Gallery will not be able to use the old space. Impression will be the first exhibition in our new space in M50 (2F, Building 4A, 50 Moganshan Rd.). We will be looking forward to meeting you there.
